About Agricultural Engineering

The agricultural engineer is a professional who applies engineering science and technology to agricultural production and processing. It covers a wide range of activities, including crop production, livestock management, and processing and storage of agricultural produce. Agricultural engineers use their knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering to improve Agricultural productivity. Agricultural Engineering is a relatively new field, and its development has been strongly linked with the industrial revolution and the development of Agricultural science.

The first Agricultural engineers were probably those who designed and built the early machines that replaced manual labor in Agricultural production. The invention of the steam engine and the development of the the iron and steel manufacturing led to a need for engineers who could design and build Agricultural machinery. In the early 20th century, Agricultural colleges began to offer courses in Agricultural Engineering, and the first professional Society for Agricultural engineers was formed in 1913.

The scope of Agricultural engineering has expanded greatly since its beginnings. Today, Agricultural engineers work on a wide variety of projects, from developing new methods of food production to designing Agricultural machinery to improving Agricultural environmental management. Agricultural engineering is an important field of engineering that offers many opportunities for improving agricultural productivity and environmental management.
